When it comes to designing your new custom home, the kitchen is one of the rooms you need to spend the most time thinking about. Your new kitchen needs to look great but it also needs to make cooking and cleaning as easy as possible.
Whether you are a gourmet cook or just want your kitchen to look like one lives there, then the following things must be included in your design:
A Deep Apron-Front Sink
Gourmet kitchens require deep sinks where large stockpots and roasting pans can easily be washed. Apron-front sinks are on trend and they are also excellent for keeping water in the sink and off of the counters and flooring.
Large Drawers Instead of Lower Cabinets
Rather than installing lower cabinets that require people to climb around on the floor to retrieve items, instead, consider installing large drawers. To make the drawers look great, install smaller drawers on the top row for small things like utensils and larger drawers below for pots, pans, and small appliances like your waffle maker.
A Pot Filler
When your custom kitchen is first being built, adding the extra plumbing for a pot filler is a simple and inexpensive thing to do. Every single time you want to boil pasta for dinner you will thank yourself for adding a pot filler into your custom home's design.
A Built-In Spice Rack
Gourmet cooking requires more than salt, pepper, and garlic powder. And, since small spice bottles never fit well inside of cabinets and tend to get knocked over or lost, keep them contained in a built-in custom spice rack near your food preparation area or cooktop.
A Built-In Refuse Station
The last thing you want visitors to your home to see in your pretty new kitchen is an ugly trash can or recycling bin. Rather than trying to hide them under the sink or in a cabinet, instead, install a built-in refuse station. Refuse stations are designed to look like a small cabinet from the outside but pull out to reveal a shelf where you put a recycling bin and a trash can on the inside.
High-End Appliances, Including a Dishwasher
Finally, it's important to outfit your custom home's gourmet kitchen with high-end appliances. And, this absolutely must include a dishwasher. When it comes to resale value, a dishwasher is a must and buyers will often discount homes that don't have one.
